Annually, over 300,000 auto accidents in FL are reported, and over 21,000 of them occur in Palm Beach County. If you’re driving on any of the 3,500 lane miles of paved roads, you can be in a crash, but the following roads are among the most dangerous.

1. Military Trail

Military Trail tops the list as the most dangerous road in Palm Beach County, but it’s not just one intersection where the accidents pile up. You’ll want to remain especially cautious when crossing any of the following intersections:

  • Okeechobee Boulevard and Military Trail: Traffic in the area is fueled by the local Lowes, Farmer’s Market and plazas on all but one corner of this major intersection. Reports show that this intersection saw 84 crashes in 2022.
  • Northlake Boulevard and Military Trail: A notoriously busy intersection, Northlake and Military Trail meet at an intersection with multiple gas stations, a pharmacy and heavy traffic. You’ll even find big rigs driving along the intersection, making navigating the area even more challenging.
  • Forest Hill Boulevard and Military Trail: Congestion, multiple gas stations and other commercial stores surround the five-lane roads in each direction. Speeding, improper turns, merging and failing to stop at traffic lights are a few of the many reasons for accidents in the area.

What is it about Military Trail that makes it such a hazard? Traffic. Four-lane or five-lane roads on each side of the highway are still not enough to alleviate congestion and the high risk of accidents. Depending on the intersection, you’ll be dealing with busy commercial centers and a constant flow of traffic.

2. Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and Village Boulevard

Just the other day, a Florida car accident report was made about two people being pulled out of their truck on Palm Beach Lakes. Pedestrian crossings in the area are a problem, and many accidents occur when drivers who don’t know the area well aren’t paying attention and swerve to miss pedestrians.

One of the main issues at this intersection is the abundance of restaurants, bars and hotels in the area.

Locals and tourists alike are in accidents at the intersection of Palm Beach Lakes and Village Boulevards.

3. 45th Street and North Australian Avenue

Multiple gas stations and fast food restaurants are found on the corner of 45th Street and N Australian Avenue, making it a hotspot for Florida car crashes. Confusing traffic patterns and failing to stop at traffic lights is a major problem.

Merging at or near the intersection is common, with many drivers making dangerous lane changes, often at the last minute, to get into the right- or left-only lanes.

4. North Congress Avenue and 45th Street

45th Street makes its second appearance on the list, but this time, it’s at the intersection of N Congress Avenue that is the real problem. You have Walgreens on the corner and a giant shopping mall on the other side of the highway.

During rush hour, the traffic in the area and abrupt right- or left-only lane patterns are the ideal conditions for accidents.

North Congress Avenue as a whole is known for its high occurrence of accidents. Earlier in 2024, a major accident involving two vehicles shut down multiple lanes.

5. Forest Hill Boulevard and State Road 7 in Wellington

The intersection of Forest Hill Boulevard and State Road 7 in Wellington is a known hotspot for Florida car crash incidents. These famous travel points receive high volumes of traffic from all directions, with about 31 lanes total.

The intersection’s close proximity to the area’s major hospital and a large shopping complex only add to the congestion. Many pedestrians cross this intersection, which can make it challenging for motorists to navigate safely.

6. Okeechobee Boulevard and Wabasso Drive

Okeechobee Boulevard is a high-traffic road and naturally prone to more accidents, but the intersection at Wabasso Drive can be especially difficult for motorists to navigate. Drivers have to contend with traffic from the many major dealerships in the area and the nearby Palm Lakes Boulevard, both of which contribute to the congestion and risk of accidents.

Motorists may also have trouble transitioning from the light traffic on Wabasso to the high-speed traffic on Okeechobee Boulevard.

This dangerous intersection ranked 16th for the most crashes in Palm Beach County in 2018, with 75 accidents occurring in this area.

7. Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and Congress Avenue

The intersection of Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and Congress Avenue is a well-known area for Florida car crash incidents. The busy intersection often sees frequent pedestrian crossing and high volumes of traffic.

Its close proximity to shopping centers and popular restaurants makes this area naturally prone to congestion and accidents.

8. Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and Executive Center Drive

The intersection of Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and Executive Center Drive is famous for being accident-prone simply because of the heavy traffic that flows through here. These two streets are located in a commercial hub, with plenty of restaurants, hotels and shopping outlets nearby.

Fortunately, drivers tend to travel at slower speeds at this intersection, but even minor accidents can cause significant injuries.

9. Okeechobee Boulevard and Haverhill Road

Okeechobee Boulevard has a reputation for being a dangerous road in Palm Beach County, but the intersection at Haverhill Road is especially dangerous.

The high-speed traffic on Okeechobee combined with the frequent stops and turns on Haverhill make this area accident-prone. In fact, a bicyclist was struck and killed at this very intersection in May 2024.

10. North Jog Road and Okeechobee Boulevard

Situated in a busy shopping area, the intersection of North Jog Road and Okeechobee Boulevard is prone to accidents. The intersection combines two major highways and sees significant traffic on a daily basis.

In October 2024, a 33-year-old woman died in an accident at this intersection when her sedan and a truck crashed.

Although these are some of the most dangerous roads in Palm Beach County, any road can be dangerous under the right conditions.
